The New Elizabethan Singers
Registered Charity 1125032
The New Elizabethan Singers (often abbreviated to the NES) is a choral group based in Bridport, on the famous Jurassic Coast of West Dorset. We meet to enjoy singing together and preparing major choral works for performance with professional soloists and full orchestra.
The choir was founded in 1966 by the late Bruce Critchinson, then Head of English at the Colfox School.
Since their first performance of Faure’s Requiem the New Elizabethan Singers have presented many of the major works—The Music Makers, The Dream of Gerontius, Carmina Burana, St John Passion, Messiah, The Creation and Masses by Mozart, Brahms, Rutter, Haydn and many others.
We also give Carol Concerts, often for charity, at St John’s Church in West Bay.
Our current Conductor is Peter Jezard, who is also the organist and choirmaster of St Mary’s Church in Bridport where we stage most of our concerts.
